let's take a break from all the mushy-mushy stuff and sandara appreciation vids i've been posting and go back to one of my favorite topics: beauty. :)
i'll be sharing the tools i used to create a casual day look like in the picture posted below (yup, that's me):
PRIMER:
for the base, i used Elianto's BB Cream in Warm Beige
(as seen in the photo to the right). this cream makes a great base for make-up and helps add an illusion of flawlessness and dewiness. having spf 45 is a plus factor as well... :)
How to use:
apply ample amount on index and middle fingers (both sides) then spread evenly all over face (pay extra attention to t-zone area as forehead and nose are more prone to sun exposure).
POWDER:
Picking the right shade for a powder is as tricky as finding the right underwear to use for a fitted top. a face can be lighter than a person's leg or arms. a tried and tested formula i do in determining the right shade for powders is testing it on my front palm (never test a sample on your face) and if it's at least a shade lighter then that's my face's match.
How to use:
apply with sponge all over face with outward stroke. make sure that all areas are covered and no visible marks are seen. the powder should disappear into the skin (this will only happen if your powder matches your skin tone). mine's deep 04 by elianto duowear powder. :)
CONCEALER:
there are two types of concealer in the market: cream and liquid. personally, i prefer the former from the latter since it's easier to blend and apply.elianto has the best line of cream concealer. a favorite of mine is deep. it easily hides my unwanted zits and dark undereye.
How to use:
apply on pinkie or long finger (depends on preference) then blot on the undereye area (don't rub as doing so may cause wrinkles). blend evenly.
EYESHADOW
in contrast to my earth tone color top, i chose a loud eye color in different shades of plum. it's interesting to note that black is not the only way to go if you want a smoky effect on the eyes. yes, even plum eyecolors can deliver a smoky effect if done correctly and sparingly. elianto color studio boasts of great plum shades that can be used as base and in contouring.
How to apply:
apply evenly the lighter shade on the upper lid. then, apply a darker shade on the outer lower lid followed by the darkest shade on the inner lower lid. blend to create a gradient look.
EYELINER:
skinfood crayon creme liner is a girl's best friend when it comes to easy application. true to its name, it's creamy and soft to apply unlike other liners that will hurt your lid. only set-back of this is that it's not smudge-proof. :( however, it's intense color more than makes up for it.
How to apply:
pull outer lid outwards to provide a smoother canvass. apply the liner (imitate drawing an arc) starting from the inner lid to the outer. smudge for a more intense look or flick the end for an oriental look.
MASCARA:
this make-up provides an illusion of longer and fuller lashes. the secret to pulling of a more convincing lash (and clump-free ones) is by using a lash curler first before applying the mascara.
How to use:
apply on curled lashes with eyes looking down. apply a second coat for a fuller look. cover girl's fantastic lash in dark brown is best with a plum shadow.
tip: to separate clumped lashes, comb lashes.
EYEBROW LINER:
since my eyebrows' been fucked up by myself during my tweener (not to be confused with twitter) years, i have to do some major damage control. for this, i depend on cover girl brow and eye makers in dark brown.
tip: don't use black shade of brow liner unless you want to look like shin-chan.
How to apply:
fill in gaps in eyebrow. comb with a brow brush or brow comb.
LIP BALM:
lip balm is a must have in every girl's kit. it not only provide moisture, it also gives a hint of tint.
How to apply:
apply generously on lips and pucker up!
tip: some lip balm can be used as gloss over a lipstick like the face shops fresh lip balm in orange.
LIPSTICK:
matte lipsticks look glamorous when worn in dark and loud shades. cream lipsticks work best in pastel and beige shades. shimmering lipsticks can work with either dark or pastel. for a day look, i opted to go with creamy with a bit of shimmer lipstick. l'oreal color riche creme lipstick in cinnamon provides the most beautiful "barely there" look with the slightest hint of pink.
How to apply:
apply directly to lower lip then close mouth to rub the upper with the lower lip (done so to share the color to the upper lip) or use the middle finger and apply to the upper and lower lip.
people say that beauty is only skin deep. while that saying applies to some, i believe that beautifying is a statement that you want to enhance what you already have and take care of yourself. so what if i love make-up? that doesn't translate me to bullying those who don't or acting as superior to others. i say those who only sees girls with made-up face as airheads are the ones who are shallow and superficial.
